About the authors

Dr Anthony Gandy FCIB

Dr Anthony Gandy is the author and editor of TRANSITIONS and a specialist on Basel II. He is a director of Technology Planning and Strategy Limited, a company that studies the impact of technology change on the financial services industry. He was formerly head of the Faculty of E-commerce and Technology at the Institute of Financial Services where he is now a research adviser, running a number of research programmes that look at technology-driven change in the retail financial services industry.

Tony’s interest in technology change and financial services started when he was IT editor on The Banker. He later became business planning and strategy manager for the European division of a large Japanese investment bank where he worked in IT, matching development to business strategy.

He has written a number of books, including: The Electronic Bank – Banking and IT in Partnership; The Network Bank; Banking Strategies Beyond 2000; and Profit Through Knowledge and Operational Resilience – the Art of Risk Management.

He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics, has held the Tomash Research Fellowship for the history of data processing at the University of Minnesota and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

Peter Shearlock

Peter Shearlock is the author and editor of STRATEGIES and has a long history in the City and as a journalist.

Having worked on Financial Weekly in the 1960s and founded Equity International, he has been the business and economics editor on The Sunday Times , currently has a column in the Independent, and writes a number of newsletters.

Peter consults for a number of large investment banks and advises a number of major UK companies on investor relations.

Ray Heath

Ray Heath is based in Hong Kong and is a former business editor of the South China Morning Post. He has written for a number of national newspapers and business publications in the UK and for The Straits Times in Singapore.
